OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC CERTIFICATION Program

We have developed 4 Standards that can be used by 3 types of Organizations you can find the official certification documentation at www.obpcert.org

OBP NEUTRALITY SUBPROGRAM

1) Plastic Conscious Companies willing to compensate their plastic footprint by purchasing Neutralization Certificates to produce Plastic Neutral Products.

2) NGOs, Cooperatives or Companies involved in environmental cleaning  to collect and treat NON RECYCLABLE OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC and emit Neutralization Certificates for the job done.

OBP RECYCLING SUBPROGRAM

3) Plastic Recycling and Plastic Goods and Packaging Companies willing to sell Raw or Transformed RECYCLABLE/RECYCLED OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC, or to incorporate OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC in their products.

4) NGOs, Cooperatives or Companies involved in environmental cleaning to collect and sell RECYCLABLE OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC for its recycling.

For Plastic Conscious Companies

You are investing to limit the contamination of  our Oceans by plastics by buying Neutralization Certificates from organization collecting OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC. We certify the neutrality of your products of production according to what you have chosen to compensate.

For Abandoned Plastic Waste Collectors and Managers

We certify your organization as Ocean Bound Plastic Certificate Holder so that you can sell certified recyclable OBP or sell Neutralization Certificates for having collected and treated non recyclable OBP.

For the Recycling Industry and Plastic Products Manufacturers

We certify your Recycling, Transformation or production chain so that you can either sell Certified RECYCLABLE/RECYCLED OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC or claim the content of Recycled OBP in your B2B or B2C Products.

Plastic Conscious Companies

what is certified?

The Auditors will certify the amount of plastic used for your products or production (your choice) and that you have compensated it by buying Neutralization Certificates.

What is the cost?

Like most certifications you will need to pay for the cost of the auditor to come and perform the audit (travel cost, if required and time) we expect the audit to last not more than a day so the cost is reasonable. A quotation will be made when you the Audit Company The NGO Zero Plastic Oceans who developed and maintains the certification scheme charges  a variable fee depending on your organization size  to cover its running costs.

HOW DO i compensate my plastic footprint?

First you shall determine the scope that you want to compensate. Then you will buy from certified organizations Neutralization Certificates up to the amount of plastic used by the scope you have chosen.

How do I find organizations selling neutralization certificates?

We will update the list of organization supplying these certificates as they get certified. Please check the OBP Neutrality section to find providers for that service. If you need another provider please write to us we will help you set up the operation.

What are my benefits?

The certification give you the opportunity to market your product as Plastic Neutral or Ocean Bound Plastic Neutral. It also give you the assurance that the removal of non recyclable OBP and its treatment has been effectively and properly done as each Certificate is controlled by the Certification Body.

Organizations Collecting abandoned Plastic waste

what is certified?

The Auditors will certify where and how you collect abandoned plastic waste to ensure it is OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC. They will also check how you manage the collected plastic waste until recycling, reuse or final disposal and the associated traceability. Your organization will be certified as an OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC collector and manager.

What is the cost?

HOW DO i remove ocean bound plastic from the environment?

OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC is defined in the certification as abandoned plastic waste in critical areas such as riverbanks, coasts or river streams. you make collect the plastic by hand or mechanized devices, river booms are also applicable. There is no restrictions on HOW it is collected but on WHERE it is collected and WHAT is collected.

WHAT should i do with collected ocean bound plastic

If you apply for the Recycling Subprogram you will sell this OBP to be recycled. If you apply for the Neutrality Subprogram you will treat (valorize or dispose) this OBP and emit a Neutralization Certificate for the amount you have neutralized. this Neutralization Certificate is sold to a company to compensate their plastic footprint. You can of course certify yourself to both Subprograms.

What are my benefits?

Certifying your organization as OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC collector allows you to sell Neutralization Certificates or Certified Recyclable OBP. Meaning that you can get paid for doing something of significance to you and for the environment.

Recycling and Plastic Industry

what is certified?

The Auditors certify your trading operations, transformation operations or production chain, depending if you are in the recycling industry or a product manufacturer.

What is the cost?

Like most certifications you will need to pay for the cost of the auditor to come and perform the audit (travel cost, if required and time), the Audit firm will give you a quotation when you contact them.  The NGO Zero Plastic Oceans who developed and maintains the certification scheme charges a variable fee according to the size of your organization,  to cover its running costs.

OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC OR OCEAN PLASTIC?

OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC is cheaper (easier to collect) and more environmentally efficient since most of the plastic that enters Oceans is actually non recoverable (degradation into microplastics and sinking out of reach).  Collecting OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC is acting before it is too late!

where can i purchase certified OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC?

Zero Plastic Oceans maintains a list  on the www.obpcert.org website of certificates holders that can sell raw CERTIFIED OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC, or Transformed CERTIFIED OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC if the entities you would like to work with are not in the list you simply need to ask them to get certified. The process is straightforward.

The Certification give you an assurance as final CERTIFIED OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC user that you are buying the right material, likewise for the seller it’s a guarantee to access a quality recyclable plastic market.

If you sell product to the general public the Certification will allow you to make claims about the content of Recycled OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC included in your products, giving you access to a specific market of environmentally conscious clients.
